“But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:18)
Image: Four brothers, one easy going fun loving father, and Grandma Lula (the woman) trying to keep them in line. Manford, is (your grandpa) making his brothers My Uncle Jack, My Uncle Walter (your namesake) and My Uncle Kenny Ordelheide the four brothers and pardners in “crime.”
I use the term loosely, because Manford the oldest, your grandpa, was the suppose to be better, smarter, and wiser than those younger than him. But one day he was suppose to be watching Kenny, and they got busy playing and Kenny toddled over to the neighbors and went to sleep on the front porch, causing an all out family crisis, with everyone looking for Kenny. And your Grandpa was continually reminded of the errors of his ways.
Your Grandpa “Moolie” traveled and lived with Jack, in India for three years during World War II. But by the time I got to know Uncle Walt, we had wished Uncle Walter, Aunt Maxine, Carol, Karl, Kris Karen and maybe Peter, had been missionaries in Thailand and come home. This is where the story begins:
Manford, my dad, came to pick me up from work, at Porter Hospital, where I cashiered in the Cafeteria. Uncle Walter was telling this story to my dad, about doing a hernia on a patient in Thailand. He said, “I sewed up the hernia. . . .( I can’t use his exact words) The next day I came back and “bloop?” what was suppose to be “inside” was outside the little boy. The next day Walter Ordelheide the M.D. Sewed up the hernia again. Again, “bloop” his sewing did not keep the inside from being on the outside. Then it happened. Uncle Walter laughed, that kind of laugh, that was sincere, but laughing at himself and his inability to fix the hernia.
From the backseat of the car, I heard my dad laugh with him, at the complex system of health care, no matter where, sometimes things just don’t go the way we wish. This “snicker” was not about a lack of compassion, it was Uncle Walter, doing what Uncle Walter did. It was my dad having empathy with his brother.
A few years later, Walter and Kenny were often drafted into “volunteering” to move the preachers. They had hoasted the preachers couch unto the back of the pickup. But when they bounced down Broadway, somewhere it fell off. The couch just wasn’t there when they went around to take it off. Trying to suppress “a snicker” both Walter and Uncle Kenny were “guilty” of a “crime”, of not lashing down the couch?. . . neither had noticed a heap of couch left behind on Broadway. Probably because they were busy talking and not paying attention to their load. They were now “sheepishly telling the story.”
I don’t know why I named you after such a distinguished member of the Ordelheide Family? You’ve had a crazy way of planning your life, to be a missionary, but wanted to go someplace where . . .what you did, would not “kill” someone. You seemed destined to fail, at multitasking, nurse like jobs. Heavens knows you have tried. And yes, you can “snicker” you do have “tenure.” But what baffles me, is when you go….with this “snicker” like Uncle Walt?
When I call and ask you to pray for me, and the tensions goes out of my shoulders, and I relax, you go into this kind of MALE THING…this giggle…this snicker. You get so EXCITED! As if your greatest passion is to see GOD SHOW UP~
Uncle Walt and Uncle Kenny, never meant to dump the couch on Broadway, the main drag in Denver. But once the couch came up missing. . .they snickered. (I was listening and watching Uncle Walt and telling the story and Kenny snickering) They never intentionally mean to lose the couch. But in hindsight, it isn’t manly to cry either. But in hindsight, from where I sit, looking back at what happened, you could see that humor does exist, and it is a gift of the HOLY SPIRIT. . . called JOY!
In the country on a farm, if you don’t look where you walk, you might just step in a cow pie. If you don’t walk just right with a milk bucket, you might spill the milk, and you can’t pick it up, once it is spilled. I saw my Mother laugh out loud, the day she dropped the sugar, that went every direction in her brand new house. It seemed the harder she tried to keep everything “under control” something would go wrong. She laughed! The first time Janet made a batch of new cookies forgetting to put in flour, there was mess of molasses to clean up…in her brand new oven . . .in the new house. She laughed. My sister is pretty good cook now!
Walter, take a tip from your GREAT UNCLES!…They would NEVER let Manford FORGET….he made a mistake, and forgot to look after Kenny. And Grandpa Moolie, would “snicker.”
You don’t have to be a “Chip off the old block” but you can blame your “genes”. . .If you can’t cry, . . about GOD SHOWING UP TO ANSWER YOUR PRAYERS FOR ME, and hearing me say, “They looked in my ear, and my eardrum is sealed, it is no longer perforated.” THEN YOU MALE MAN, related to Uncle Walt, Kenny, Jack and Manford, go ahead! CELEBRATE, LAUGH AND SNICKER…you come from a LONG LINE…of people blessed with the HOLY SPIRIT… “But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:18) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22,34)
There is no law against JOY! There are just some things in LIFE, like JOY, in being able to laugh at yourself, when things don’t go your way. Wait! I’m confused, maybe I’m not. You could not have taken the stress out of my neck and shoulder, when I was crying about my best friend in the Hospital, with a Heart Attack, and other best friend, with one son failing a Tread Test and needing a splint, and her other son just loosing his girlfriend?
Why is it MEN, take such JOY, in seeing GOD SHOW UP? I think the laugh’s on me.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22,34) You know, no one told me Vera had a heart attack. I only found out today, they removed the ventilator and she is still alive and breathing. She’s getting her “feisty” back. But I really wanted her to tell the story of me getting her up at 2 a.m. to pick me up from the hospital and take me home. . .She got up, made her bed, looked at the clock, and using “COMMON SENSE,” sat in her lounge rocker, and went back to sleep. Back at Cambridge Hospital, I had the guts to say to myself, “I’ve written five books on prophecy, I know Michael has stood up and His Angels are at our beck and call! “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.” (Daniel 12:1).
I prayed like Job! “I will not curse the Lord! I will not curse the Lord! I will not curse the Lord! Though He slay me.” I can just hear God saying, “GIRD UP YOUR LOINS! I have something to say to you….You answer me!”
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
Job 39:20 Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
Job 39:21 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
Job 39:22 He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
Job 39:23 The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
Job 39:24 He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
Job 39:25 He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting!
No Lord, I do not know what makes THE HORSE unafraid of BATTLE, or the THUNDER OF THE CAPTAINS and THE SHOUTING?
Who is that man on the WHITE HORSE, that does not FEAR to ADVANCE INTO BATTLE?
“And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” (Revelation 6:2)
Lord? You still there? Why would the rider have a bow and no arrows? Why is the rider wearing a crown? What is He trying to conquer?
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.” (Revelation 19:11)
Wait? Michael is the GREAT PRINCE OF GOD? He was there when the Plan of Salvation was made. . .He is God in the flesh. . .He alone, can judge the righteousness and read the motives and thoughts of man?
“Yes.” So what is question?
Connie: I think I forgot? This begin with a story about Uncle Walter and the Ordelheide brothers. How did we get to the Plan of Salvation, and being saved by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ?
(SILENCE) What is it? What am I missing here? You know I just got out of isolation and healed from Shingles on my birthday, 2-3-47-2015 and I am home 7 days before I am suppose to get out. . .of the hospital? My brain must look like swiss cheese. Would someone tell me about the WHITE HORSE, the Bow and the Crown? Why are the men snickering? I just think that is in “the jeans” of those Ordelheide men!
Sincerely, One who knows how joyful it can be to, to be, a fool for the Lord! I wonder if sometimes, we make Him smile! Who goes there? Who goes before me, to take me to where I need to go . . .to get humble. Thank You Lord, for saving my soul!
