Health Habits Glorify God

You Are The Temple of God
To the North is Lebanon, to the West is the Mediterranean Sea, to the East lies the Jericho Valley and Dead Sea, to the South is Bethany, Bethlehem, then the Tomb of Abraham in a high hilly range among rock quarries.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (I Corinthians 6:19)

To glorify God is the first duty of Man.

Our first duty toward God and our fellow beings is that of self-development.  Every faculty with which the Creator has endowed us should be cultivated to the highest degree of perfection, that we may be able to do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable.   Hence that time is spent to good account which is directed to the establishment and preservation of sound physical and mental health.

The masterpiece of Michaelangelo seems to express the holy King as undressed, but physically fit. A fitting piece of art, exposing the nakedness of man after the devil helped man to fall into sin, in the Garden of Eden.

Man in God’s workmanship, His masterpiece, created for a high and holy purpose; and on every part of the human tabernacle God desires to write His law. . . .Every nerve and muscle, every mental and physical endowment, is to be kept pure.

God designs that the body shall be as a temple for His Spirit.   Solemn is the accountability resting upon every soul.   Your individual influence is exercised for good or for evil.   If you defile your body, you are not only doing harm to yourself, but to many others.   Christians are under obligation to God to keep soul, body, and spirit free from all that will defile; for they have been bought with a price. . .

No man or woman has any right to form habits which lessen the healthful action of one organ of mind or body. . . .Those who give themselves up tot he use of tobacco and liquor do not appreciate their intellect.   They do realize the value of the faculties God has given them, to be cultivated and improved.   Thus men allow their powers to wither and decay.   God desires all who believe in Him to feel the necessity of improvement.   Every entrusted faculty is to be enlarged.   Not one gift is to be laid aside.   As God’s husbandry and building, man is under His supervision in every sense of the word, and the better he becomes acquainted with his Maker, the more sacred will his life become in his estimation. The fear of God was put into the mind of men, by this ancient practice of showing how "God" weighs the heart of man against a feather. If the "sins" of man weighs more than his heart, his destiny is hell. If his life is pure, then certainly the feather weight of sins, will allow the King and men, to enter the after life.

I’m in my shorts and shirt, ready to hit the treadmill, and found this admonition in a time when I finally feel “unstuck” enough to be me. Being “stuck” in a rut, a habit, to self destruction, fighting forces I cannot see, has led me to indulge unhealthy food, I call “comfort food.” So today I openly stand on the scales at 199, most of that weight is muscle. lol

I need your encouragement, to remind me of my desire to be a complete person, in body, mind and soul. I want your feed back. I want you to be my support team. Most embarrassing is my education in how to teach a Cooking School, and a solid understanding of nutrition from classes provided for Dental Hygienists, and a team of ministers that included Elder Loveless,  at the Loma Linda University Church, invited us to come and learn, as we watched them make an create and make healthy food.

While traveling in Egypt this image on papyrus brought a new light to me in the way the Egyptian men, weighed sins, against the weight of a man’s heart. This method of judgment for the after life, removed all fat, and it was the heart of soul, the heart of man, that determined his or her worthiness for eternal life.  I’m going to use this logo, to record “my weight” but thankfully, God has said, :”The fat of the lamb belongs to the Lord.” That will be something I wish to explore in the future. “Sins” of ignorance, against the commands of God, concerned things which ought not to be done. If this sin becomes knowledge, then the sinner brings an offering of a female goat. (Leviticus 4)

Lev 4:27  And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and be guilty;
Lev 4:28  Or if his sin, which he hath sinned, come to his knowledge: then he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he hath sinned.
Lev 4:29  And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering in the place of the burnt offering.

Lev 4:35  And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and the priest shall burn them upon the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: and the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath committed, and it shall be forgiven him.

Weighed in the balance and found wanting. . . comes to mind. However this research takes me to sites that trigger images in the Bible, I might learn more than I want too?

What I learned today about fat, associated with “sins of ignorance” is both new and old. I knew the “fat of the Lamb” belonged to the Lord. But I didn’t know “the fat” of the female baby goat, without blemish, would have to die, for my sin of ignorance. . . if I were Jew . . .in the days of Children of Israel.  This would make sense, why the smell of this offering, was a pleasing smell to God. It meant that his children were growing to see and enjoy their relationship to God, by finding their sins of ignorance, and asking God to forgive them. The Priest of God, was responsible for helping the congregation become aware of their sins of ignorance.

Well, I can’t be all muscle. But at 5’3″ every pound, becomes a weight, snugly pressing against my organs trapped in my skin. This is not the kind of “comfort” I was seeking. Can I spend more time “eating the word of God,” to help fill up the “time” spent in seeking comfort food, in the wrong place?

I have place a lot of words on this page. I am daring myself to have you as my support team. As I watch my weight, diet, and health improve along with my spiritual life. This is going to be humiliating right from the start, admitting I have so much muscle and such a large and heavy “heart”, but that does not warrant, my sins, to be lighter than a “feather.”  If my fat, would be placed against the weight of feather, I would be doomed to hell. . .for sure.

Don’t know how to Skype or make a video, but I need your help, so I will go and work out today, and begin to document my time on the tread mill. November 3, the day before the Elections, 2014
